Brokeback Mountain actor Heath Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment Tuesday afternoon. When Ledger’s housekeeper found him, the 28-year-old actor was naked and unresponsive with pills strewn about with prescription pill bottles found near his body.

Ledger’s role in Brokeback Mountain not only earned the him an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination, but earned him the respect from many gay men. His performance as a man unable to come to terms with his sexuality was one of the most moving ever put on the big screen.

Seeing Heath Ledger and his pain at the end of Brokeback Mountain, as he clutched a shirt, regretting the missed life the two men could have shared, regretting his own wasted life – makes Heath’s death even more meaningful and sad.
